Methods Of Mayhem “Self Titled” Gold Record Award
I always knew that Methods of Mayhem's self-titled debut had surpassed 500,000 copies sold, so logically, there had to be a Gold award out there. But despite all my digging, no photo of it seemed to exist anywhere online. Then, out of nowhere, I finally came across one, someone was selling it privately.
What should’ve been a straightforward acquisition quickly turned into a challenge. The seller initially refused to ship outside the U.S., and the whole negotiation process was a serious headache. But in the end, persistence paid off, and the award has finally made its way to Switzerland.
Back in 1999 to 2001 (the absolute peak of the Nu-Metal era), Tommy Lee’s new project Methods of Mayhem rode that wave to major success. The debut album, released on December 7, 1999, hit Gold status from the RIAA by January 12, 2000, less than a month after its release. That kind of momentum was rare.
Chart-wise, the album debuted at #71 on the Billboard 200, and even broke into international rankings, hitting #94 in Austria and #93 in Greece. A fast, loud, chaotic entrance — just like the music itself.
Methods of Mayhem “Self Titled” Gold Record Award
Let’s take a closer look at the award. The background features the full album artwork, setting the tone for the entire piece. Just beneath it is a illustration of Tommy Lee, taken directly from the album’s inner booklet, a nice visual that ties everything together.
On the lower left, the original CD is mounted as part of the display, and at the bottom, you’ll find the award’s dedication. This particular piece is dedicated to Bob Dallas. From what I’ve gathered, Bob was a respected tour manager within the rock and metal scene, and sadly, he passed away in 2019. This award stands as a meaningful tribute to someone who was clearly part of that world behind the scenes.
