Sick Puppies In-House Award “Tri-Polar” Singles

Today, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve received another cool looking award, and this one is extra special. While it’s not an official RIAA certification, it’s a prestigious In-House award presented by the record label. This recognition honors the incredible success of Sick Puppies' third album, “Tri-Polar”, which was released on July 14, 2009, through Virgin Records.

To date, “Tri-Polar” stands as the band’s most successful album. Although their single “You’re Going Down” achieved Gold certification from the RIAA on March 12, 2013, it’s important to note that no album from the band has ever received a certification. This In-House award takes into account the collective sales of all four singles from the album: “You’re Going Down”, “Odd One”, “Maybe”, and “Riptide” alongside the album itself, which has now surpassed over 1 million copies sold.

The RIAA doesn’t combine individual singles in their certifications, so this recognition from the label adds a unique and personal touch to the milestone. As a side note, Tri-Polar made it to #31 on the Billboard 200, #148 in the U.K., and #17 in New Zealand.

Let’s dive into the details of this incredible award: As mentioned earlier, it’s an impressive piece that showcases the cover artworks of four standout singles: “Riptide”, “You’re Going Down”, “Odd One”, and “Maybe”. At the center, there’s a vinyl adorned with the Tri-Polar logo, meticulously crafted from strong cardboard and featuring a stunning laser-cut design. The attention to detail is truly phenomenal. Above the vinyl, the Sick Puppies logo is printed on the back, framed with a sleek black border, giving the entire piece a clean and polished look.

This award is especially meaningful, as it’s dedicated to Andy Somers, he’s a legendary figure in the music industry. With a remarkable career that began in 2001, Andy was instrumental in launching The Agency Group's West Coast operations. Over the next 13 years, he represented iconic punk and heavy metal bands like Social Distortion, Pennywise, and Circle Jerks, before transitioning to APA in 2014. In 2021, he co-founded Paladin Artists alongside Steve Martin, Wayne Forte, and Karrie Goldberg, an agency focused on comprehensive artist and brand representation. This award is a well-deserved tribute to his influence and legacy.

UPDATE December 13, 2024:

It’s hard to believe, but it’s finally happened….The band has received well-deserved recognition! After 11 years since its release, “Tri-Polar” has officially gone GOLD in the United States. This milestone is long overdue and a testament to the album's enduring impact. But that’s not all, the band has also earned Gold certifications for their singles “Maybe”, “All the Same”, and “Riptide”.

And if that wasn’t incredible enough, remember “You’re Going Down”? Their first single to achieve Gold certification? Well, 11 years later, it’s now officially gone Platinum! Truly a remarkable journey for a truly deserving band. It’s kinda strange that the band has never received any certifications for sales in their home country Australia.
