Crazy Town “The Gift Of Game” Platinum Award

It’s 1999, and Nu-Metal is everywhere. Then Crazy Town drops “Butterfly”, a so called Nu-Metal ballad you can say. I lost count of how many parties I heard that song at. Most people only know that one track, but the album’s got actually a couple pretty decent songs which are worth checking out.

"The Gift of Game," released November 9, 1999 via Columbia went Gold on January 12, 2001 and Platinum by February 6, 2001, thanks to the massive success of its 3rd single “Butterfly.” The album peaked at #9 on the Billboard 200, and charted in several countries: #3 in Hungary, #4 in Austria, #2 in Finland, #3 in Norway, #10 in New Zealand, and #11 in our home country Switzerland! Besides Platinum in the U.S. and Canada, the album went Gold in Finland, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, the U.K., and Switzerland, a true global success.

But the “Butterfly” single? It was even crazier. It hit #1 in the U.S., Norway, Poland, Greece, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Romania, and Switzerland. It got Gold in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland, and Platinum in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the U.K. plus 2x Platinum in New Zealand and Australia. But weirdly, no RIAA certification in the U.S., despite hitting #1.

Crazy Town “The Gift Of Game” Platinum Award

Let’s talk about the award. Honestly, it’s not the most exciting one I’ve seen. It’s got a decent-sized background design featuring the album artwork, with the CD smack in the middle, nothing too wild. That’s pretty much it. The award’s dedicated to Lee Ganz, but if you try to dig up details on him, there’s not much floating around online. If anyone knows more about his role on the album, hit us up and share what you’ve got! Thank you!
