Disturbed “The Sickness” Platinum record award

Just received this small, but nice looking Disturbed Platinum record award for their debut album “The Sickness”. There’s also a bigger version of this award out there, maybe in the future I’ll have the chance to purchase that version also.

The album was released on March 7, 2000, by Reprise Records and quickly made its mark, earning Platinum certification from the RIAA just eight months later, on November 15, 2000 right in the peak of the Nu-Metal era when bands still moved serious units. No surprise there. In a twist of irony, it would take nearly 18 years for The Sickness to reach 5x Platinum status on June 21, 2018.

On the charts, the album peaked at #29 in the U.S., #102 in the U.K., and #100 in Scotland. Its international journey continued over the years, reaching #30 in Australia in 2008, #5 in Greece in 2010, #35 in Hungary in 2020, and even #81 in Germany in 2025.

Disturbed “The Sickness” Platinum Record Award

As mentioned earlier, it’s a smaller version of the award, but it’s beautifully designed. The background features the signature mint green from the album artwork, giving it a distinct and cohesive look. It includes the official RIAA hologram, the CD, and the album cover, all topped off with Disturbed’s iconic “The Guy” smile logo printed directly on the glass. The album is dedicated to Rich Garcia: He’s a seasoned producer, engineer, composer, and musician, has spent over six decades in the music industry. Starting in his teens in Corpus Christi, he found his passion for recording. After forming Hacienda Records in 1979 with his brother, Rick produced hits for artists like Freddy Fender and Lisa Lopez. Today, he leads CHR Records, hosts regional events, and runs a syndicated radio show, "Through The Decades," continuing to be driven by his love for music.
