Kid Rock “Devil Without A Cause” Diamond Record Award
Okay, this one is absolutely wild! The person who owned this award actually lives in Germany and get this — he drove all the way from Germany to Switzerland just to personally deliver it to me. That has literally never happened before! Sure, he had a few other clients in Switzerland who collect awards, but still… when you really think about it, that’s pretty insane!
Now, let’s talk about the award itself: this is without a doubt the biggest one in my collection so far. It’s massive. But here’s the real highlight, this is my very first Diamond-certified award. For those who don’t know, Diamond certification means selling 10,000,000 copies of an album. That’s a monumental achievement, considering that, to this day, only around 105 albums in history have ever reached Diamond status.
And I couldn’t be happier that this milestone belongs to this absolute Nu-Metal banger of an album. Okay, to be fair, it’s not purely Nu-Metal, there are definitely some country and hip-hop influences in there. But let’s be honest: the track “Bawitdaba” is nothing less than a Nu-Metal anthem and an all-time classic.
The album originally dropped on August 18, 1998, and it earned its first Gold certification on April 23, 1999. Things started moving fast after the release of “Bawitdaba,” which really propelled sales. From there, it skyrocketed from Platinum on June 4, 1999 to an incredible 5× Platinum by December 1, 1999, thanks in large part to two other hugely successful singles: “Cowboy” and “Only God Knows Why.”
The real milestone came on July 16, 2001, when the album was officially certified Diamond after hitting the 10,000,000 copies mark. The last recorded update was on April 17, 2003, showing 11,000,000 copies sold and that’s exactly what this incredible award represents.
Kid Rock “Devil Withou A Cause” Diamond Record Award
Kicking off in 1998, Kid Rock launched his “Devil Without a Cause” Tour, marking the start of one of the most defining eras of his career. By the spring of 1999, he joined forces with Limp Bizkit and Staind for the Limptropolis Tour, further expanding his reach and fanbase.
Through relentless promotion including high-profile appearances on HBO and MTV, a performance alongside Aerosmith and Run-DMC, and a memorable set at Woodstock 1999, Kid Rock’s album “Devil Without a Cause” became a massive success, selling over 11 million copies worldwide. The album’s rise was largely fueled by his breakthrough hit single “Bawitdaba,” which quickly became an anthem of the late ‘90s.
Despite its huge commercial impact, the album peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. Internationally, it reached number 11 in Canada, number 28 in Austria, number 82 in Germany, number 55 in Australia, and number 14 in New Zealand.
In terms of certifications, “Devil Without a Cause” achieved 11× Platinum status in the United States, 4× Platinum in Canada, a Silver certification in the U.K., and Gold in New Zealand, cementing its place as one of the most iconic albums of its time.
Kid Rock “Devil Withou A Cause” Diamond Record Award
Let’s talk about the award itself. As I mentioned earlier, this is without a doubt the biggest award in my entire collection and it’s absolutely massive. The design is stunning, featuring 15 vinyl records carefully arranged inside the frame, giving it an impressive and powerful presence.
One detail that really stands out is the frame itself. It’s crafted in a classic old-school silver style, which gives the whole piece a unique, vintage character. Alongside the vinyls, the award also includes the original album cover and even a cassette tape, a great reminder of the days when music was still sold on cassettes.
At the top, you’ll find the Kid Rock logo and the album title elegantly displayed, tying the entire design together. The award is dedicated to Joseph Tapia of Family Productions, a name that seems to have faded into history, as there’s very little information available online about him or the company.
